Internet slow down during back ups

So I'm wondering if anyone else has the very noticeable internet slow down and UI hangs that I have during Time Machine back ups?

Sometimes, I just have to cancel the back up to get what I'm doing done in my browser.

Some of the stuff I do (college course work) is internet based and timed and Time Machine has brought me down to a crawl more than once.

Any thoughts or experiences along these lines anyone?

MacBook Pro (13-inch Late 2011), OS X El Capitan (10.11.3), Samsung 830 SSD, 8GB RAM

If you are using wireless then a backup is going to use the bandwidth and not allow internet priority which is stupid but apple have worked to avoid QoS.

The best suggest is to stop doing TM backups while you do internet.. or to use ethernet where you will find the disk speed is too slow to saturate the gigabit connection and therefore internet should still have plenty of capacity.
